The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has donated farm inputs worth 8 million shillings to 18,000 residents of Malindi and Magarini who were affected by flooding early this year. The consignment was flagged off by FAO Country Director Gabriel Rugalema in Kilifi this morning.

Speaking during the flagging off ceremony, County Committee Member in Charge of Agriculture, Luciana Sanzua said the donation includes certified hybrids seeds, implements and pour-ons to control vectors that could transmit diseases to livestock.

Kilifi County Governor Amason Kingi said his Government will be supplementing the efforts of FAO by providing enough agricultural extension officers to ensure the farmers produce enough harvest to sustain them financially. Kingi said the County Government will restore small holder irrigation in the areas by providing new pumps and pipes after previous irrigation equipment was washed away by flood waters.
